How it works
The active ingredient of Vivando®, metrafenone, is the first agent from the benzophenone chemical class to be developed and Vivando is the first fungicide in a new group: Group U8.
Vivando stops infection by inhibiting spore penetration into the plant tissue and limiting sporulation. It also limits lesions by slowing the growth of existing powdery mildew infections. Smaller lesions reduce the spread of the infection.
Vivando is released by vapour pressure, which can help spread the active across the leaf or fruit surface. That distributive action maximises the protective area in all crops and is particularly advantageous in protecting tight bunches of grapes.
Questions and Answers from the Field
-
Why use Vivando fungicide?
Vivando fungicide offers a new mode of action to grape growers. It offers flexible use in spray programs and provides excellent protection for bunches and foliage. Vivando is approved by New Zealand Wine.
-
What grape diseases are controlled?
Vivando controls powdery mildew in grapes.
-
What is the application rate of Vivando?
20 mL/100 L water, applying to point of runoff (per hectare rate dependent on row spacing and canopy volume).
-
When should you apply Vivando to the vineyard?
Apply at 10-21 day intervals in a protectant programme, alternating with fungicides from different modes of action e.g. triazoles. Use shorter interval when heavy infection pressure occurs.
-
When can you graze the vineyard after applying Vivando?
Do not graze stock within treated vineyards until after harvest.
-
What is the best fungicide for powdery mildew on grapes?
BASF’s Vivando fungicide is an outstanding choice for controlling powdery mildew on grapes, offering up to 21 days of residual control and a unique mode of action with no cross-resistance to other chemistry. Vivando is the best fungicide for powdery mildew on grapes.
-
How do you treat powdery mildew on pumpkins?
BASF’s Vivando fungicide can be used to treat powdery mildew on pumpkins and winter squash. It can be applied on a 14–21-day schedule in a protectant program, alternating with fungicides like BASF’s Colliss, triazoles, or BASF’s Kumulus DF.
-
What is the mode of action of Vivando?
BASF’s Vivando fungicide has a novel and advanced mode of action that disrupts the development of the piercing tips of powdery mildew spores, preventing them from penetrating plant tissue. Vivando belongs to Group 50 chemistry, and its active ingredient, metrafenone, inhibits spore penetration, slows growth of existing infections, and spreads across the plant surface through vapour action.

How do you treat powdery mildew in grapes?
An excellent way to treat fungal infection such as powdery mildew in grapes is to use BASF’s Vivando fungicide. It's preferable to apply Vivando at 14-21 day intervals in a protectant program, alternating with other fungicides like triazoles. Vivando's innovative mode of action and vapour action provide excellent protection against fungal infection in grapes.
